There are many people who love animals and would like to work with them. A career in grooming is a wonderful alternative to many fields where a person is able to work with animals, Pet Stylists get to make them beautiful and feel good. Pet Stylists are also the first to notice a change that may affect the pet’s health and regular grooming also aides in keeping the pet healthy. For this we are rewarded by a pet that trusts us and we come to love the pets in our care. We are rewarded by the pet’s family in what I call “instant gratification”. Who doesn’t like to hear how great you are, how beautiful your work is and how much their pet enjoys coming in to see you! Very few fields enjoy that kind of praise on a daily basis. We also get rewarded financially. The pet grooming field is wide open and you have the potential to make as much as the effort you put in.
The field is also varied and one of the least expensive in getting training and going into business if you chose. You can work for someone and with a good work ethic at a nice establishment you can make very good money usually working less than 40 hours a week. Other professional choices include mobile, a salon, a salon at home, and renting space in a salon. There are many additional revenue streams that can be added, tie ins that naturally service your clients and create more revenue. The sky really is the limit in this profession and it is also a great part time job if that is what you are looking for.
First place to start is to receive training. Choosing a school is vitally important, this is your career. The school that can help you get the best launch for your career may not be the closest to you. Choose a school with a structured curriculum that will teach you pet safety, quality styling skills, pet communication and teach you the mechanics so you understand how to style all breeds and any client requests.
There are also home based programs and Golden Paws is pleased to announce a new home based learning system with a step-by-step instructional book with pictures and illustrations that will help you to develop the skills and knowledge to style all pet styles. Along with the book are DVDs that go along with the chapters. These DVDs include even more great information. This project is an accumulation of nearly 40 years of experience in teaching pet styling. We will be offering three programs for you to choose from. This is very exciting and brand new. Please look to this blog or www.goldenpaws.com as we anticipate a roll out date coming by May 2009 or sooner.
I hope everyone had a great St. Patty’s Day!
Sincerely,
