Using a Panic Snap (Quick Release)

As a result of several pets being seriously injured (or worse) in salons around the USA I am going to do a series of blog posts on safety equipment and noticing when a pet is under stress.

Noticing when a pet is under stress is one of the most important things we as stylists must be able to do because it does not matter if the dog is groomed to perfection if it is injured or killed in the process.

Loop adjuster with panic snap

Loop safety is one of the things I cannot stress enough. I see people with the loop way too tight or way too lose and they have NO IDEA that what they are doing can and will cause problems for the pet. This is a post I did several years (and 60 pounds ago!!!!) which is a really good reminder for everyone to watch. I require all new staff to watch it.

Just recently as well, one of the people on my FB Group, Grooming Smarter (it's a secret group, so you have to request through me to join), said they were having a hard time with their quick release not opening correctly, so I did a quick little video explaining what they are and how they work.

It is important to remember that if you have a flailing dog you need to get that loop off FAST and if they are pulling on the loop it can be nearly impossible to undo the clip that most loops come with, which is why I use the GH loop adjust on EVERY TABLE In my shop. It also means you never have to touch your arm to lengthen or shorten it. I DO NOT WORK FOR this company and get NO PAID BENEFIT from suggesting it, it just works for me and I think its one of the neatest inventions EVER. I mean we all know that a falling grooming arm can hurt you or the pet if for some reason the knob isn't tight enough and this eliminates that entirely.

This tool is NOT a BREAKAWAY like many people think. It does not break open on its own with pressure.

Being able to get a dog loose from a loop in the event that they have a moment of panic can prevent injuries, both minor and major as well as DEATH. Practice with the panic snap until it loosens up and you are confident in your ability to use it when needed and then PRAY you never do but be glad you know what to do if/when the moment arises.
