One of the most common problems in the grooming industry is poor communication, not just from the client but from the Groomer as well. Let’s look at how we can get our message across and understand our clients more clearly.
Client: Leave her fluffy
Groomer: Do you want me to leave her long enough that you must brush her daily or every other day?
Client: Make him short
Groomer: Like a Military crew cut?
Client: I want her to look like a puppy
Groomer: A new born puppy with no hair or a 6 week old fluffy puppy?
Client: My dog hates having his nails done
Groomer: Does he move around a lot or does he try to bite?
Here are some other ways to communicate:
Find sketches of different dog breeds and make multiple copies. When a client comes in with a Shih Tzu and starts to give many directions you can have her sketch them out. Simply hand her a copy and a pencil, go through each part of the body and make notes. Keep this on file for future reference.
Have Business Policies– make them available everywhere. Keep them on your website, on a poster in your shop and on the back of receipts. Keeping your clients well informed will keep them happy as well.
