  • Kim Raisanen is the President and Founder of the PCGAA – The Professional Cat Groomers Association of America and author of “Learn How to Professionally Groom Cats”, a Practitioners Guide. In addition to be a successful all around groomer, she is a sought after grooming industry speaker known for her interactive and entertaining seminars on cats and cat grooming. She is a certified instructor through the American Red Cross Canine and Feline First Aid and CPR. Her grooming salon Creature Comforts Cat Styling Salon is located in northern Ohio and is the only cat-exclusive salon in the Greater Cleveland area.Kim is a freelance writer with articles published in industry magazines such as Pet Age. The PCGAA’s Board of Directors include Mary Arnold, TICA All Breed Judge of Merit with the TICA, Barbara Bird, cmg; Dr. Candy Burton, DVM; Daryl Conner, MPS Meritus; Patty Kolk, owner of Bitebuster, and Kim Raisanen, cmcg. The PCGAA is an accreditation and educational association. Educational emphasis is placed on the properly handling techniques and humane grooming of felines. The association offers education and accreditation to those groomers wish to further their cat grooming skills and become a certified master cat groomer (cmcg). Mentorship, camaraderie, quarterly newsletters and online chats keep it’s members active in the association. The PCGAA has booths at most grooming shows around the country. The PCGAA is the first and only association founded by professional cat groomers.

Embedded Nails! OUCH

The previous post has a picture in it of the "after".

This was the nail that was embedded prior to our trimming it. We wrapped the paw in gauze and instructed the owner to take the cat to the vet for his recommendations on aftercare.

Many times, owners are unaware of the nail issue. That's why it's so important to educate - educate your customer. Besides the vet, we as groomers are the next in line to speak as the pet's advocate.
